Earlier this spring I had the opportunity to plan a retreat for women healing from trauma. The retreat was held on the beautiful campus of the Minnesota Humanities Center. Attendees received a personal journal for taking notes and a complimentary gift of luxury skincare items. I used my favorite paper poms as centerpieces, which are always a hit! The women truly enjoyed themselves and received the help and information they needed to begin the healing process in their lives.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to decorate for another milestone birthday party! The event took place at my new favorite venue the 5120 Restaurant and Onyx Bar. This space is so beautiful, minimal decorations are needed. So I use a pop of color with this royal blue and added accents of black. The use of white compliments the overall color story, I am a fan of simple design and very clean lines!

Recently I decorated a wedding reception for a client at the Banquets of Minnesota located in Blaine. This is a beautiful venue accented with ceiling draping and lights I recently upgraded my chair covers, and I was really happy with the outcome of the centerpieces that I had designed, and the color palette that the bride chose. Usually, I would just take pictures and call it a day, but then I thought this would be a great space to shoot a video! So I contacted my husband's friend Mike Johnson, and he agreed to record me during the process of setting up. I am pretty excited with the results! Check it out!

Remember when I said I was a little busy, and that I forgot to post a few things? Well, this is one of those post! ;) All the way back on May 11th of this year, I was asked to be part of an awesome event called "Styled For Good", hosted at the Machine Shop. This event brings the best of the best wedding professionals together to donate their time and talent back to the community. This year was the first year that they had a runway bridal fashion show, and D.Balentine Events was selected to execute this part of the event. Above is an aerial view of the grand finale, you can't see but I'm backstage behind those balloons. ;) I must say this was by far one of the BEST experiences and BEST events that I've been a part of! The co-founders Janae Saltzman and Kelly Bolman were great to work with, the models, hair and make-up team, bridal boutique designers and vendors- all professional, and did excellent work! It was great to return to my roots of fashion show production, and to know that I still got skills! lol! I haven't been backstage of a fashion show for years! To find out more about "Styled For Good", please visit their website @ www.styledforgood.com. Oh, I and almost forgot to mention, all of the models were women of color! This was a priority for the co-founders, and they were very successful in achieving this goal!
I captured this photo backstage right before the show started. The models were just waiting patiently, chatting amongst themselves.

There are times that I get a little busy, and I forget to post events! So, I am posting this one now! I had the opportunity to decorate and plan a family friend's book signing event this past June. The venue wasn't very big, but I prefer intimate venues anyway! Each guest was greeted and welcomed with a glass of sparkling cider, which was a great personal touch! The evening was filled with love and support from family and friends, it was a great success!
Congratulations to Sherree Ellis on writing her first book, "God Created Me".
Simple centerpieces for the guest tables.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to decorate for a poolside baby shower, the guest of honor was Minneapolis Mayoral candidate Nekima Levy-Pounds. As we all know, hosting events outside can have its challenges especially with the weather. Although it was a beautiful sunny day, there were a few issues with the wind. So I used lots of tape (and a few rocks) to secure everything in place! The expecting mother chose the colors of her sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha, which is pink and green. The shower was a success, and the guest of honor and her guests love the decorations! This was also my first time creating the life-size baby blocks, I was pretty happy with the results!
Here is the before picture of the backyard prior to me decorating.
And of course, I used my favorite paper poms for the centerpieces!
This wall of the garage was a perfect canvas to add a focal point for the baby shower.

I am very fortunate and honored that my services are requested often by my church. This gives me the opportunity to always try something new and execute new ideas. For this event, I used black tablecloths instead of the standard white. I also used rhinestone chargers to compliment the centerpieces, black and white striped chevron runners, and gold accents. And of course, my beloved paper poms!
